A leading plant-based, dairy-free food brand faced weakening category leadership as competition intensified and consumer skepticism grew around taste and texture. Functional health claims alone no longer differentiate products in the crowded market, and prior dairy-free messaging failed to motivate incremental adoption. Our challenge was to re-establish the brand’s relevance while driving measurable sales impact during a critical seasonal window.
We designed and executed a nationally representative consumer study to identify the true drivers of dairy-free purchase and avoidance. Our research revealed that taste confidence, ingredient quality, and emotional flexibility outweighed health claims, highlighting why prior messaging had underperformed. We translated these insights into a clear reframing opportunity: positioning dairy-free as enjoyable and inclusive rather than restrictive.
We created and activated “Dairy-Free February,” repositioning the month as a feel-good, low-pressure alternative to rigid January health resets. The campaign included:
